The Southwold Railway linked Southwold town and harbour and Walberswick as a short-lived narrow-gauge line leading on to Blythburgh and Halesworth. The route pretty much follows the old line, walking on the former tracks in several sections. The walk is through lovely woodlands for much of the way and at Blythburgh there is a fine pub for a meal or drink. The return seems different, but for some of the distance is only a few metres away from the outward leg. The route as described reaches the river at Walberswick foot ferry, before the return into Southwold town centre.
