The walk quickly leaves the market town of Spilsby and heads out over farmland on good paths to Toynton. A shallow valley is crossed en route to East Keal Church, then down almost to fenland and back up to the finely sited West Keal Church. Extensive vistas across the Fens to Boston reward, before the walk continues along a quiet lane and drops down again into Old Bolingbroke. The castle, recently excavated, was the birthplace of Henry IV, son of John of Gaunt. The village is almost secretive, hidden, as it is surrounded by the Wolds.

There then follows a pleasant path back up to the higher farmland, the village of Hundleby and thence back to Spilsby.
