This route shows Calderdale at its best, from open views over the surrounding countryside to period houses in local villages; from hilltop to valley floor via tracks, country lanes and fields. The area stretches far back into history - a short detour can be made to see Barkisland Hall built in 1638, one of the most beautiful local buildings. The village of Stainland, meaning Stoney Land, is recorded as a township in the Middle Ages.
JUNE 2010: THE FOOTPATH BETWEEN WP5 & THE MILL IS CLOSED WHILE FLOOD DEFENCE SYSTEMS ARE BUILT. EXPECTED TO REOPEN OCTOBER OR NOVEMBER. THERE ARE TWO OBVIOUS MINOR ROAD ALTERNATIVES.
