If you like coastal and cliff walks, there are no better than this stretch of coastline; with beautiful views out to sea this walk is a must. With many idyllic spots along the way and places to stop off and see, you can visit four or five of the wonderful coastal villages all in one day, stopping for a picnic and a quick snack or a beer.

The walk starts at Staithes and you can explore the harbour and beach here before following the Cleveland Way all the way past Port Mulgrave, giving you the chance to explore this should you wish. Next you ccarry on to Ruswick Bay, enjoying a nice stroll along the beach before continuing up onto the cliffs along to Sandsend, past the quarry which you can explore, then down along the beach towards Whitby, where you can have a well-earned 'best fish and chips in the UK'.

This is a linear walk. You can catch a bus from Whitby to the start point and walk back.

Did this walk yesterday, unfortunately the tide was in at Runswick Bay, making the beach section inaccessible. This meant a detour back up the steep hill and continuing along the disused rail track to reach Kettleness and rejoin the Cleveland Way, adding a further 3 miles to the walk. I would advise that walkers check the Tide Tables before attempting the Runswick section of the walk.
