For those with just an hour or two spare but who want to visit a summit and see some spectacular views, this is the walk for you.

Starting off at the very north end of the Burbage Valley, the walk heads away from the busy climbing spots and follows a well-defined path heading west. The Cowper Stone (a large boulder) can be seen to the north and after a gentle and short ascent you will arrive at the 457m summit of Stanage South Top. This is only 1m lower than High Neb a few miles to the north but the views are breathtaking, with a long-distance view down past Castleton to Mam Tor and over to Kinder Scout. The route leads down to the road to the south and follows the road briefly to pick up a path that skirts the rim of the Burbage Valley. About a quarter of a mile of walking along the rim and you will arrive back at the car park.

A short detour at Burbage can take you to the summit of Higger Tor at 434m above sea level and offers some dramatic views south.
