Stanningfild is a small village spread out around open fields just a few miles south of Bury St Edmunds. This route explores the lovely Suffolk countryside to the west of the village and takes you past one of the best country houses in the area.

The first part of the walk simply follows quiet country lanes past Stanningfield village hall and its parish church. The church sits almost completely alone except for the odd house nearby and is within a tranquil setting. The closer you approach Coldham Hall the more the countryside changes to an estate feel.

Coldham Hall itself was built in 1574, with more recent additions and alterations up to a restoration in the 1980s. The estate was sold to supermodel Claudia Schiffer and her film producer husband Matthew Vaughn several years ago for the mighty sum of £5 million and they are frequently staying here at weekends.

The route out of the estate follows Coldham Hall's main driveway, over a bridge and up to the main gates, complete with gatehouses either side. Returning to Stanningfield mainly follows quiet country lanes and footpaths back through other parts of the old Coldham Estate, before arriving back at the village pub.
