This is easy walking on a walk of moderate length around the flat, pleasant countryside just south of Darlington. The circular route that straddles the River Tees is almost entirely on a loop of the Teesdale Way long distance footpath.

Stapleton is a sleepy little community with a popular village pub and is located on the northern boundary of North Yorkshire. The walk starts along an almost traffic free surfaced lane that rises gently through fields just south of the River Tees, then just as sedately descends to intersect the village of Croft-on-Tees where it crosses the River Tees to enter County Durham. Shortly after this the route passes through a complex tucked away in a loop of the river that includes Middlesbrough Football Club Training ground as well as Rockcliffe Hall, a Luxury five star Hotel, Spa and championship golf course. From here a pleasant surfaced lane leads into the picturesque medieval village of Hurworth-on-Tees at the farthest point of the walk. The return leg then starts through open fields for a return back to Hurworth Place. A short section of road walking follows before the route heads north through more fields to enter and pass through the middle of a municipal golf course. The last mile of the walk back to Stapleton is pavement walking along busy main roads.
