A superb little walk, mainly on bridleways and tracks, which starts from the Church which overlooks Barton Abbey. The walk takes the bridleway that leads through the most lovely countryside, where trees line the route on the right, whilst the views on the left are over the beautiful Barton Abbey Estate. The River Dorn runs below and features throughout the walk, with little tributaries flowing away from it, making their own courses.

The mind wanders to the distant past whilst walking through the area known as Purgatory. Local stories tell of monks who worked there to purge their sins and the hardships they endured in order to do so. The wonderful parkland of the Barton Abbey Estate is a joy to wander through and there are several paths to choose from around the house. This route views it from above before veering off to walk in peaceful pastures and then past remote cottages, before finally returning to the start.

31/7/2016 Did this very pleasant walk in rolling Oxfordshire countryside today. In your 'Access Info' it says 'follow road signs to Steeple Aston Church. ' This should of course read 'Steeple Barton Church.' However, as we discovered having tried to start there, there is also a very charming church in Steeple Aston too! Please amend.
