The walk starts at the hamlet of Fersit near the northern end of Loch Treig and heads south over pathless moorland, climbing quite steeply to reach a knobbly, rocky summit ridge. 2km along this ridge the summit cairn of Stob Coire Sgriodain is perched on the edge of a sheer drop down to Loch Treig; the views here are stunning, with peaks in every direction. The route continues in a large arc over a high bealach to reach the summit of Chno Dearg, a grassy cone at 1,046 metres. The descent is down the steep grass- and heather-covered northern slopes of Chno Dearg leading back to Fersit.
