Stokenchurch - Bledlow Ridge - The Ridgeway - Chinnor - Stokenchurch

A beautiful walk with some challenging ascents which reward the walker with magnificent views. The walk joins The Ridgeway long-distance path for two miles, dipping in and out of several typical Chiltern wooded valleys. This is a good long walk; take a packed lunch and make a day of it.

For an enjoyable shorter walk of just under 6 miles, continue past WM9 and take the long bridleway on the right to a T-junction at the end of the wooded section, where you turn left and climb the hill to rejoin the route at WM24; this is unsurprisingly muddy in the winter but less churned-up than the bridleway from WM24-26.

Happily, The Boot in Bledlow Ridge (WM12) has been reincarnated and, on the evidence of our visit on 28/3/2014, seems to be thriving. Excellent walk, faultless directions, many thanks!

Great Walk and views right from the start. Some of the tree markers (after WP19) are difficult to find! I walked passed without noticing many of them. Luckily I was using a 1:25k map on my GPS and didn't wander too far off course. Also, WP 17 is incorrectly positioned in the GPX file. Meaning that WP17 is displayed on your GPS as several hundred meters further on than what's shown on the route information. See the video: http://www.youtube.com/user/JsWalks2010

Bulls together with cows are perfectly legal but, yes please do take care with cattle especially if you walk with a dog. See our article: What about cows and bulls? in the Getting Started section.

I have read with alarm today of a woman killed by an untethered bull whilst on a RoW. This applies to this walk when approaching waymark 18 on21-4-08 there was a huge untethered bull and herd of cows in the field. Since it was on my route I gave it a wide berth - I didn't think this was allowed on RoW
