Talybont - Brinore Trail - Usk Valley Walk - Pencelli - Brecon Canal - Talybont

Any walk in this area has much to offer. Both the Taff Trail and the Brinore Trail pass through Talybont. For this walk we use the Brinore Trail as well as the Usk Valley Walk. Following the route of this walk, we pass through the lower edge of Talybont Forest as well as being able to enjoy fantastic views. The return route is along one of the loveliest stretches of the Brecon Canal.

A colleague & myself completed this walk in late July, at Instruction 9, the wooden structure to the left of the picture has rotted away. We crossed the stile into the field but could not find an exit at the bottom left corner nor any Public Footpath arrows. We therefore continued along the road/track, turned right along the next track and finally reached the "main road" near the canal bridge. Near the bridge, we did see Public Footpath arrows which we assumed probably related to the intended footpath, but were too tired to check!!. In all probability the FP signs have disappeared at the beginning.

It is easier to start this walk at the Talybont Village Hall (Henderson Hall) carpark where there is a lot of space and toilets. It is then a case of walking to the swing bridge, but not crossing it and turning left along the tow path with the canal on your right.

I help out with a dog walking group, we choose this walk and walked it on 25th May 2014. This is a nice walk not strenuous but pretty easy, We nearly missed a marker which has now been replaced I think. Unfortunately we had to avoid part of the route as we have dogs and there were Bulls/Calves and Cows in a field so we didn't like to disturb them. This was a personal choice and by no means ruined the walk.

A super walk on a crisp autumnal morning with great views. The village hall also has a car park further down the main road. The 3 finger post at WM 7 has now been re-instated.

Lovely walk, well signposted although the 3 finger post at point 7 has fallen down.
