This walk was originally submitted by Brian & Anne Sandland. Walkingworld is very grateful for Sid Marks taking over the walk, April 2021. Walk titles and route directions may have changed since the walk was first published.

Starting and finishing at a very convenient free car park by Alton Water (the water supply for SE Suffolk) this walk takes in a pleasant stretch of path by the lake as well as using well-maintained field-paths and two tracks through delightful areas of woodland. You pass an isolated house along the route which is surrounded by an electrified deer-fence. This is no extravagance because the surrounding fields are home to scores of deer and whenever you cross the fields you are likely at least to find thousands of hoofprints, even if you do not see the deer themselves. There are also hares in abundance and other flora and fauna, including a large variety of waterfowl on the lake.
