The walk takes advantage of the road to gain the height needed to reach the highest point in Cheshire, Shining Tor, at 559m. For much of the way there is an accompanying wall. Return by reversing the outward route. It's a good chance for families and inexperienced to reach a real, if modest summit.

Lovely bracing walk in autumn sunshine earlier today. Didn't feel like 5 miles in truth, but meant we had lunch a little earlier than planned! Cat and Fiddle still looks pretty closed, but we found excellent food and hospitality at the nearby Stanley Arms.
