The start of the walk is flat but this stage of the Way is relatively low anyway and has no great climbs. It goes along very narrow lanes, through pastures with no signposting and through pine plantations for the most part. Even the few villages passed through are tranquil, the loudest noises I heard being the constant mewing of buzzards.

Have done this walk twice using a car at either end of the walk. This in my opinion is the best leg of the whole Clwydian Way, including the long sections from Brenig to Llansannan which Jim Grindle hasn't chronicled on Walking World. There are only 2 short steep ascents on the whole walk and the navigation is made easy by good instructions.
