The walk starts at the A70 as one of the few places where this part of the Way can be accessed. It crosses Airds Moss, which is a Special Protected Area because it is an important ornithological site. Once across the moor the path follows the river through an area of woodlands. Around every bend there is a surprise, from gushing and playful waterfall to a large tree-covered pool, until the village of Sorn. This part of the walk is very clearly signposted.
