The walk is through woodland and fields with views over Ayrshire and the River Ayr. It links Auchencruive Estate with the village of Annbank. The woodland is mixed woods with bluebells and other wildflowers. The walk continues on grey chips descending to the banks of the River Ayr, closely following the riverbank with views of surrounding farmland. It continues on firm earth with some muddy patches along the side of picturesque Holm Bank.

This walk is especially worthwhile in May when the bluebells are in full flower. There are continued magnificent views of the Ayrshire countryside as you walk along the banks of the River Ayr. You then enter Ayr Gorge Woodlands, still following the river but this time through a semi-natural woodland designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
A drink or meal can be obtained at the Failford Inn.
