Take this peaceful little walk around the back of Kirkby Stephen in the Upper Eden Valley. For the most part it follows the River Eden and for a while a disused railway to the bridge at Stenkrith where the river has made extraordinary carvings into the limestone riverbed.

Talking of interesting carvings - look out along the way for poetry written by Meg Peacocke and carved into large stones by Pip Hall.

Not sure what happened with the GPS download referred to by Michael and Marian but they have been checked and they are now definitely correct. It is, as they say, a pretty easy route to follow anyway!

Came out to Kirkby Stephen on a Dalesrail Excursion from Preston. 1.5 miles each way from the railway station to the village but designated walk/cycle path. Just time to do this walk which was lovely especially the river at Stenkrith Bridge - quite dramatic. Only point I would make is that when we downloaded to our GPS the waypoints on that did not agree with those on the paper instructions. However the route was easy enough to follow.
