Starting from the picnic area at Timbersbrook, near Congleton, this walk follows part of the Gritstone Trail across farmland until it reaches the Macclesfield Canal. From here we follow the canal for over 5km to the flight of locks at Bosley, where we traverse meadowland and lanes until we are under the shadow of The Cloud.

After the ascent to the top of this very prominent outcrop, it is time to rest awhile and take in the panoramic views. These include most of Cheshire and parts of Staffordshire and the Peak District. It is now only a short walk back down to the picnic area and the starting point of the walk.

Don't do it in winter. The canal towpath is horrendously muddy and the fields were hard work too.

Route between Waymarks 2 & 3 rewritten to cater for footpath diversion.

Walked this route on the 6/9/2016. We found at section 2, the footpath has been diverted. The route that passed the cottages is now closed. The new route is well signed and soon picks up the route as per instructions. j stanier

Great walk, and the views are well worth the hard slog up the hill! We dropped down the A54 to the Robin Hood Inn PH (887647) for a lovely lunch (they made all 20 of us feel very welcome, although we had booked previously).

Fantastic walk a little steep towards the end of the walk but the view was worth it. Wow! You could see for miles on top of "the Cloud." It was very overcast but still a great view must be hundred percent better on a clear day. Will do again.
