On this walk you follow the South Channel after Tollesbury's marina and then have excellent views of Mersea Island, Great and Little Cob Islands, the Dengie Peninsula and the estuary of the River Blackwater. After Shinglehead Point, the remote vastness of Tollesbury Wick Marshes then Decoy Marshes is followed by a walk inland from Thistly Hard. You will be far from the madding crowds, but should see a wide variety of birdlife and will want to repeat this walk in the opposite direction.

Nice walk, easy to follow instructions. Tide was in for some of it so our dogs had a good swim. At least 3 of the stiles are not dog friendly. We had to lift both dogs over the top which is not easy when you have two large golden retrievers. Walk was 7.6 miles.

6/30/2009 - David Pereira and Jeni Chester

Dave & Jeni - off road ramblers. Very hot & humid day, fantastic walk. Near the end we stopped at the Kings Head for a cold drink, we then decided to extend the walk using a footpath we saw on the Map OS 176 & on the Walkingworld downloaded map. We then returned back to the tarmac lane we had come up at end of point 7 & took the first footpath left, following footpath signs until you reach the marsh bank at point 5 again (Do Not walk towards naval tower). We then turned left and returned along the marsh bank to the car. Very easy, breaks at pillboxes, great views. Total of 12.5 miles. 5 hours including all breaks, most enjoyable day.
