The walk starts at the visitor centre on the south shore of Torside Reservoir in Longdendale. After a kilometre of easy walking along the Longdendale Trail (a railway track converted for leisure use), we climb steeply up to meet the old Pennine Way on Hey Moss. This is a challenging walk and should only be attempted by the reasonably fit and those with experience of walking on trackless peat moor; Hey Moss is where the tough stuff starts. The old Pennine Way is ill-defined in places, so a map and compass are required. The spectacular descent down Crowden Great Brook leads us back to Torside Reservoir and a gentle finish along the Longdendale Trail.
