The walk takes you through the riverside part of Totnes before entering the Baltic Wharf complex and onto a clearly marked footpath, initially by boatyards and then close to the unspoilt and beautiful south bank of the River Dart. The footpath eventually leaves the riverside and climbs up a steep section through a field and woods to emerge on a country lane to the village of Ashprington.

There is an excellent church and pub grub available from the Durant Arms, depending of course on the time of arrival. The walk then follows country roads and lanes for 1.5 miles and then a footpath through fields, where there are splendid views of Totnes 400 feet below. The descent back to Totnes is down a steep and narrow country lane which emerges by the entrance to Baltic Wharf.

Due to construction work, the route has now been diverted between points 2 & 3. At the Steam Packet Inn turn right up an alley for about 50 metres, then turn left up the new footpath, which is also a Sustrans cycle route. After about 400 metres cross the stile on the left and walk along the new footpath to join the existing route at point 3. it appears that this may be a permanent diversion due to the scale of the work being undertaken
