Upper Wyndcliff - Wye Valley Walk - Eagle's Nest - Porthcasseg - Upper Wyndcliff

This area above the River Wye is always worth a visit. The views across the Severn are far-reaching and the near views across the Wye as it loops round on itself below the cliffs are well known from photos. The route goes up at the start before levelling out through Black Cliff Wood.

Started this walk from Tintern, rather than the Upper Wyndcliff car park, and walked right up the old drovers' road (where bluebells and wild garlic abound in May) to meet the minor road mentioned in Point 3 and then went as far as the Eagle's Nest viewpont before returning to Tintern via the Wye Valley Walk (which now follows a route near Reddings Farm). Navigation was easy, but we noticed that the sign for Porthcassag Farm had been moved and was pointing back up the minor road in the direction we'd just come! Hopefully it will get put back in the right place soon. Please note that the zigzag path mentioned in Point 2 is steep and could be slippery in wet conditions. The numbers on the map are not consistent with the written guide. To match up, 3 should be near to where 4 is, 4 should be where 5 is, 5 where 6 is and 6 should be where 3 is!
