Most walkers gain the summit of West Lomond by following the well-trodden path from the car park at Craigmead. The approach from the east avoids the western ramparts of the Lomond Hills escarpment. Come along with us and try it from the wild west, a fantastic half-day walk taking in geology and history, with some entertaining route-finding thrown in. It's the best way up this fantastic hill.

As there is some off-path navigation, walkers will need to have basic navigation skills in the event of inclement weather. The path down Hoglayers will be slippy after heavy rain and will need winter equipment under snow conditions (it's a great place to practise though, as there are no dangers on that part of the walk).
