Leaving Whickhope, we walk through silver birch trees on the shoreline path and across meadowland to reach the boatyard. The route then takes us around the peninsula of Merlin Brae, with the viewpoint overlooking the Kielder Dam, before reaching the water-ski school. From here we skirt the edge of the pine trees, then walk across rough meadowland back to Whickhope.
If you are lucky, you may see one of the twelve pairs of merlin hunting around the brae for small birds, mice and shrews. Many other species of birds, animals and flowers can be seen on this short walk, making it a super walk for nature lovers.
