Whilton Locks - Long Buckby - Whilton - Muscott Mill - Whilton Locks

From the car park opposite Whilton Carpet Business, the walk takes the route of the Grand Union Canal, up the Buckby Flight of locks. There is much to occupy the walker's interest: the canal architecture, the pleasant natural environment, the busy boating scenes. On reaching the top lock, the route veers away from the canal across fields and meadows, crosses motorway and railway and enters the large village of Long Buckby, where all amenities are available. The village of Whilton is charming, with lovely cottages and houses and a small church built in rich stone, where you can rest awhile. Then ot's on through pastureland in a very rural area to come to Muscott Mill and back onto the canal, sandwiched between motorway and railway, to walk another section back to Whilton Marina and locks.

Good directions along with generally a well signposted route make this a pleasant walk . Lot of contrasts with canals, main railway line M1 motorway and the A5 all covered or crossed at various parts of the walk

A very nice walk, well detailed and easy to follow with some great views. What a contrast between the tranquility of the canals to the noise of the railway and M1! There is a nice bench by the church at point 15 for a packed lunch stop. Well recommended.
