Whitegate station is a justly popular starting point for walks: a free car park, easy walking along the former railway track and a welcoming cafe provide good reasons. This route takes you off the old railway to some attractive corners nearby. Fields, hedgerows, woods and the odd stream give opportunities to to see a good range of plant, bird and animal life. It also takes you past St Mary's, Whitegate. A church designed by the well-known local architect John Douglas in an unusual style.
