This is a canal walk with two lakes and acres of delightful woodland near Northwich. Not quite circular - more a figure of eight; but it has excellent leafy, grit or tarmac hard paths throughout. The walk starts with a long stroll along the canal (photo on the right), which is widely used by boats enjoying the Cheshire Ring canal route so in summer you should see several cruising past. The walk then includes a circuit of the very popular Marbury Country Park followed by a stroll along a very quiet lane before looking at Neumann's Flash. Most of the area round the flash is reclaimed land from old derelict salt workings, now landscaped and scenic - but you would never know. There are no stiles on this route and only a few kissing gates. This walk includes instructions for walkers from moored canal boats.

The walk is suitable for teenagers, senior citizens and anyone in-between, also excellent for dogs; it is good for buggies and wheelchairs, but they will need carrying up a few short flights of steps. Suitable footwear in summer will be anything flat soled, but boots will probably be best particularly in winter. There should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts. In the park there are good toilet modules, open and undercover picnic tables, numerous bench seats; and these are also scattered elsewhere along the route of this walk. There are refreshments and toilets at the pub. If you wish to use the pub car park it's best to book for a meal. Attend to this in advance as the pub is very popular; you should then be able to get a good meal with your drink; an excellent finish to a good walk. Tel. 01606 43064.
