A lovely circular walk starting at Yarmouth and going along the banks of the River Yar taking in its beauty, natural reedbeds and abundant birdlife. You walk through idyllic countryside from the Solent to Freshwater Bay, overlooking the English Channel, by crossing the western-most promontory of the Isle of Wight.

You will also visit 'Victorian Hollywood', a part of Freshwater aptly named owing to the many writers, artists and poets who lived or spent time at this location. After this you head for the parish church of Freshwater and next to it stands the Red Lion pub, a lovely old English village scene. Following this you then walk along the western bank of the Yar back to Yarmouth and the ferry terminal.

Should you choose to return to Yarmouth by bus and shorten the walk by nearly three miles, there is a bus at Freshwater Bay.

We think there is a need to look at the navigation when doing the circuit around Freshwater Bay; sections 4, 5 and 6 as it is not at all clear. In addition in Section 6 it should be made clear in the description that Farringford House is several hundred metres along the road and the path on the left that is needed is several hundred metres beyond the house and is a Bridleway that passes Farringford Farm. Section 8 description needs looking at as there are track/path improvements in this area and the cattle grids don't seem to exist.
