A short but classic walk starting from the picturesque village of Dufton, it takes you along a short distance of the famous Pennine Way, which was exceedingly muddy the day we walked it. Walking around the Pike you get stunning views over the North Pennines and a pleasant, gentle drop back into the village, where the post office will provide tea and home-made cake.

Lovely walk on a sunny day, with splendid views. We walked it in the reverse direction- counterclockwise- so there there was a gentle but continual climb from 9 to 8 but this was on a mostly gravel lane, with reasonable going underfoot. At 8 we climbed further up the valley towards High Nick past the limekiln for wonderful views. This way we encountered the muddy Pennine Way (from 6 to1) walking downhill.

If you have the time (and energy) I would recommend walking to the top of the pike. The easiest route is from the NW shortly after leaving the Pennine Way and entering Access Land. The views from the top are stunning.

Did this walk on 02/05/05. Very easy to follow and can be done in the two hours, even stopping to look at the fantastic views. There is a pub in Dufton - Stag Inn - which does good food, although a little pricey.
