Bere Alston - River Tamar and Calstock Viaduct

This is a free sample walk but you need to log in as a member of Walkingworld to access the details. Join or log in above if you are already a member.

This walk starts and finishes in the Bere Peninsular village of Bere Alston and takes you down past the hidden cottages of Tuckermarsh Quay along the riverbank, passing Ferry Farm which once used to be a shipbuilding yard and under the Calstock Viaduct. You will have a splendid view of Calstock and also a bit further along, of Cotehele Quay.

You could at one time get the ferry across the river but unfortunately it isn't now running. You will walk next to the Tamar for quite a long way, so take your binoculars if you would like to do some bird watching.

It is verging on a gentle stroll as the majority of the walk is either downhill or level (there is a steep bit at the end). The route goes right past Bere Alston Station, giving you the option of arriving by train.
