This short walk starts off in the stunning little village of Rydal, which is sandwiched between the incredibly popular destinations of Grasmere and Ambleside. The route passes Rydal Mount and Rydal Hall (where there is a little detour to a fantastic waterfall in the grounds of the hall) and follows the Coffin Route in the direction of Grasmere. The path gains a little bit of height and offers amazing views over Rydal Water to Loughrigg Fell to the south-west.
The route passes White Moss Common and goes through a lovely section of woodland which is carpeted with bluebells in spring and is quite a sight! The last section of the route follows the south side of the lake, again offering fantastic views to the nearby fells of Silver How and Nab Scar (see general photo for the walk). This really is the perfect little warm-up or warm-down for a walking holiday in Lakeland.
