Ambleside and High Sweden Bridge

This is an ideal short walk for a part-day; you reach quite a height in this sheltered valley. High Sweden Bridge in summertime is an idyllic spot, being south-facing and generally out of the wind, a good spot to relax with the family. As you will see from my photographs, it is not quite the same in the snow, but it still makes a good objective for a walk and in rain it is worth doing just to see the waterfalls at both High Sweden and Low Sweden Bridges. I have not been able to discover the origin of the name even on Google and would be glad to hear from anybody who can enlighten me.

Beautiful walk even in the pouring rain. The water falls are breath taking. Very easy directions to follow. My children loved walking with the Herdwick sheep all around us.

Another fine walk from Mr. Grindle. Walked Sun 10.08.08, all present and correct and truly magnificent views into Ambleside. This is a great little afternoon out, moderate height gain though but nevertheless very easy. A full 10/10.
