This is one of the shorter walks that you can do from Ambleside and it is particularly attractive in that in return for a modest amount of climbing you have a number of fantastic views: the length of Windermere, the Fairfield Horseshoe and the Coniston range and nearer at hand, Wansfell.

Lily Tarn lives up to its name in summer when a protracted stop by the water would make this walk last much longer than I suggest – although I recorded it in January!

4 Nov 2020. Did this walk before setting off home after a stay in Ambleside. Spectacular views at the top over Windermere. Path down to road after Sid Cross' bench is very uneven but overall a very nice walk to finish off our break
