The walk uses the paths skirting Rydal Water and Grasmere that have been upgraded in recent years. It is a linear walk that needs a car at each end or the use of the frequent buses between Keswick Ambleside and Grasmere, but as the paths are so good and as there is little height gain, it would make a good family walk; there are only a couple of spots where a buggy might need to be manhandled and there are lots of picnic and paddling places. It is certainly superior to the circuit of Grasmere that I have seen many families on with half the walk on the pavement along the A591.
