Starting and ending at the friendly CB Inn, this walk goes on to produce impressions of the isolation and exposure of those who worked on these hills. The early attractive Punchard Gill is balanced by the austere bleakness of the moorland and remote mines and spoil heaps.
The whole route is shown on the OS map but a short section is now trackless, requiring a competence with map, compass and / or gps. Most of the height gain is achieved on slowly rising clear tracks. Photographs do not help greatly on this terrain and attempting to maintain the OS route is best. The walk ends at the CB Inn, where welcome refreshments can be obtained.
