Rising high above its fellows, Addleborough dominates this part of Wensleydale with its distinctive shape. This walk takes us from the little Dales village of Thornton Rust all the way around Addleborough, mostly on open moorland.

Until recently, the summit of Addleborough was inaccessible, but the National Trust, who own much of the hill, have put a concessionary path in place. There is an option within this walk that allows you to follow this path over the top, rejoining the main walk between Waymark 11 and Thornton Rust. This option shortens the walk by around 3km, but adds a steep 80m to the height gain.

Dog owners please note that there are one or two dog-unfriendly stiles en route and sheep aplenty -so please keep them on a lead.

Walked on 31 March. A very cold day, but an enjoyable walk, nonetheless. Parked on the main street in Thornton Rust as there was ice on the track up to the 'car park'. Had one or two problems with route finding between WM2 and WM3, but this may have been due to the snow. After that had no problems. About 15% of the walk was under snow. This was unusual for us as we are from the West Midlands. The snow was so high at one point that we were able to walk straight over the top of a gate.
