This walk covers a great mix of terrain on easy to follow tracks. The route starts with a short flat section through woods and fields alongside a stream that delivers you into the popular Hamsterley Forest. A pleasant walk then follows through the forest before exiting onto the high open moor of Hamsterley Common from where there are great views of the surrounding Durham countryside. Pleasant lane and field walking follow as the route descends gradually down to the valley floor of the Bedburn Beck to return to the start. This can be a very muddy walk during the wetter months of the year, it is therefore best tackled in the drier months.
The walk starts with a fairly short flat section that roughly follows the Bedburn Beck to arrive into the Visitor Centre car park in Hamsterley Forest. The route then initially rises up through the trees followed by a flat section before the walk leaves the confines of the forest and rises steeply at times up onto the open moor of Hamsterley Common to the highest point of the walk. The route then leaves the moor and descends very gradually along an enclosed lane to intersect a surfaced road. A series of fields follows as the route descends to meet the Bedburn Beck and pretty much tracks the route of the stream firstly through a caravan park and then through the grounds of a Hall to return back to the car park in Bedburn.
