Brough and its Southern Pastures

This walk is, perhaps, not typical of the area in that it deliberately avoids the Pennines which overshadow the village. It crosses numerous pastures and hayfields that, in summer, are full of flowers and birdsong. Many waders can be heard (lapwings, oystercatchers and curlews) as well as the expected songbirds, making a memorable experience.
The first part of the walk is a little tricky to follow and has a number of stiles, for which reason I have included more waymarks than I normally would. As you progress there are few stiles and navigation becomes easier. There are good views of the Pennines, including Cross Fell and of Nine Standards Rigg, Mallerstang and if you know where to look, the home of Walkingworld.
