This walk has a bridleway, woodland, a short stretch of parkland, the canal, a few fields and good views of the Lake District from the elevated towpath, making a more than satisfactory day out. The intention was to offer an improved version of Walk 1161, which was devised during the year-long outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, although the original has been enjoyed now for a few years and is still available.
