This short, pleasant walk in mid-Teesdale feels longer than its 5.3 miles. The route is mainly through fields and occasional lanes in the gently undulating countryside to the west of Barnard Castle.
From Cotherstone the walk heads south through a series of fields to intersect and pass through the serene village of Lartington. The route then continues on its southern path through fields to reach the highest point of the walk in the area of West Pasture. The route then changes direction and heads north mainly downhill through a series of pleasant fields with a visit to a steep gully before returning to Cotherstone.
