The walk starts from the car park and information centre in the village, going directly up a steep, cobbled track alongside Flinter Gill. This is hard going but when you reach the top there is no more climbing. An old green road is followed downhill, although erosion by 4x4s has meant resurfacing with stone. A few minutes on a lane leads to a real green track, among the most attractive that I have walked on, with views of upper Dentdale in one direction and of the Howgills in front. This again drops to some restored farms and eventually to the valley, where the River Dee is followed (part of The Dales Way) back to Dent.
