This short walk will take you less than an hour to complete. From Pooley Bridge the footpath takes you to the small but prominent wooded summit of Dunmallet at the foot of Ullswater. The summit is 787 feet above sea level and comes in as the 96th highest in the list of Alfred Wainwright's '116 Outlying Fells'. If after the walk you are longing to do more, then you could walk over another of Wainwright's Outlying Fells - the slightly higher Heughscar Hill which is 2km south-east of the village. Parking is allowed at Roehead, 1km from the village, or you may prefer to walk the whole way. Navigation is easy as there are numerous paths running all over the flanks and top of the hill. The general picture of Dunmallet was taken from there.
