From Eggleston Village there is a long, stiff climb through fields then surfaced and unsurfaced lanes that leads onto the open Eggleston Moor. The long walk across the open moor is fairly flat on good clear tracks and provides great views of the surrounding hills. The walk eventually leaves the moor past The Ark on the Edge animal welfare sanctuary. A long section of pleasant moorland road-walking with generous grassy verges then follows before the route descends through several fields and along grassy lanes to intersect the Teesdale Way long-distance footpath that leads down to the River Tees. The short final section of the walk rises from Eggleston Bridge through the grounds of the charming Egglestone Hall and Gardens to return to the start.
