Close to Ambleside is the lovely valley of Langdale. This circular walk around the valley begins in Elterwater and passes through Chapel Stile onto Dungeon Ghyll. The walk can be started in any of these locations, although parking is only available in Elterwater and Dungeon Ghyll. The walk begins by following the course of the Langdale Beck from Elterwater to Dungeon Ghyll. It then returns higher up the hillside, providing nice views down over the valley. The last section of the walk is on a solid track through some forestry, taking you back to the start point in Elterwater.

Lovely walk we did yesterday. At point 8 on crossing the beck there is a new path to the left therefore you don't need to go on the road as per points 9&10 just follow the path left. The Strickland barn pub is a warm welcome on reaching the car park and dog friendly too,so worth a visit.

Did this walk a couple of weeks ago (from a different guide) and at waypoint 17 took the path to the left which takes you through the slate quarry workings, where there is a small visitor centre & wonderful viewpoint over the quarry workings. This is a working quarry but there is a public right of way through. The path then descends through some slag heaps to return you to the bridge at Chapel Stile. You then retrace your steps back to Elterwater.

Did this on Feb 14th and it was a perfect low level walk especially for our elderly labrador (Holly -age 14) Nice lunch at the Brittania Inn afterwards.
