The way up to Silver Howe is at first easy to follow, but near the top is more difficult. For this reason few ascents are made in mist and most descents are made simply by reversing the outward route. I have suggested a different way down which involves a delicate descent in a scree gully - not dangerous but needing care and preferably using a trekking-pole for more security. There is quite a climb for the distance involved, but it is a worthwhile excursion with good views over the Vale of Grasmere and the surrounding summits.

A very strenuous walk but well worth it for the 360 degree views from the summit of Silver Howe. Excellent directions and a superb walk. One point to note, the Scree Slope has been eased somewhat by the addition of a man-made stone path so there is no need to descend on scree. Overall not too dangerous and lovely views. 10/10.
