This is a low-level walk from the New Dungeon Ghyll along the side of the valley, with just one steep climb to reach Blea Tarn, where there is a classic view of the Langdale Pikes. There will always be some serious photographers here, cameras on tripods, waiting for the perfect light.

On the return this view will be in front of you all the way back into the valley, making the pull up worthwhile. There is always time for a drink in the shabby but welcoming Hikers' Bar in the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel before an easy finish through fields by the beck.

We did this walk in March 2020 when there was still snow on the tops of the Langdales. The views going up and all the time we were descending were probably some the best views of the Lake District that I have had the pleasure to see. We parked in the car park on the left hand side of the road, much cheaper than the NT car park a little further on. Bring plenty of change. A vehicle parked when we arrived had a parking ticket when we returned to the car, so ensure that you buy plenty of time.
