This is just a short walk of about two hours which takes you from the roadside up to the great viewpoint on top of Great Mell Fell. The route follows an obvious path, starting steeply and then progressing onto a more gentle path. The views overlook Little Mell Fell alongside and Gowbarrow Fell to the south and once at the top the views north stretch to Blencathra and over in the direction of Penrith and the Pennines.

For those with an interest in ancient history, the summit is marked by a small cairn on top of an ancient burial mound, likely from the Bronze Age.
