Martindale is a secluded and beautiful area of the Lake District. Out of season you may walk all day and never see another walker, but during the holidays this quiet part of Lakeland can throng with walkers!
Starting off at Martindale Church, the route heads directly up the fellside, offering fantastic views over the whole of Martindale and the surrounding fells. The route continues straight to the summit of Hallin Fell and although this is only a small fell by Lakeland standards, the view of Ullswater and surrounding countryside is breathtaking. The large obelisk at the summit makes for an easy target to see and an interesting peak to visit.
The route then descends the western side of the fell to the lakeshore and follows it round, through some ancient woodlands and then back round through parts of Martindale to the church for a very satisfying mountain walk.
