A very easy to follow walk through Hamsterley Forest mainly on wide, surfaced or unsurfaced forest tracks. The route explores the northern part of the larger western sector of the forest. There are long sections of either ascent or descent with a pleasant long panoramic section to finish on a gently descending track.
The walk starts from The Grove car park, located in the narrow neck of the forest before heading north-east on forest roads to pass through The Grove Hamlet. The route then heads west into the larger and more remote section of the forest, initially on a flat track before the track starts the long pull up to the highest point of the walk at Black Hill, close to the northern edge of the forest. The walk then starts to descend, at first on a wide stony track and then down the steep deforested side of the Euden Valley to intersect and ford the Euden Beck. A short flat section of track follows before the route once again starts to rise out of the valley before levelling off. The final very pleasant lap of the walk back to The Grove car park follows a wide, gently descending stony forest track on the high south side of the valley that for most of its length reveals great views of the forest.
