A short but challenging climb from Haweswater to the summit of High Street, returning down the direct ridge over Rough Crag to the reservoir.

The climb to Mardale Ill Bell takes you past a beautiful tarn and then becomes quite strenuous. Thereafter there's a more gentle climb to High Street, then a descent of a rocky ridge, with great views of Haweswater, Blea Tarn and beyond, the Eden Valley.

The rocky crags on your left on the way up used to be home for a pair of Golden Eagles, sadly both now gone.

6/11/2015 - Brian Foster

I did this walk on a beautifully sunny day on 10 June 2015 and enjoyed it. Route finding was easy but I would suggest that it would be better to do it the opposite way around as the descent from High Street is rocky, requires a little scrambling in places and would be easier as an ascent route, albeit a sharp climb.
